Common Mistakes You Can Avoid When Treadmill Walking
By: Rian Haswanda
Everyone today seems to be looking for the right way to get back in shape and start feeling good about themselves once again. Those of you who already have a treadmill need to think about
treadmill walking to shed
unwanted pounds. Before you get started, check out these common mistakes that you can avoid while
treadmill walking.
When you are ready to get on the treadmill, make sure that you are stepping on properly. This is how a lot of treadmill injuries can occur. The speed needs to be set incredibly low so that you can easily step on and begin walking. If
the speed on the treadmill is too fast, you may end up slipping or losing your footing in the process.
When
treadmill walking, you may feel the urge to grab onto the handrails or even the entire console or
heart rate monitor. The handrails are designed for safety and should not be held onto while you are walking. Your arms should fall to your sides and sway naturally from side to side.
If you are grabbing onto the railing for support, you should check out your overall posture. You should stand up straight and tall so that you do not have trouble breathing while you are walking. If you do not stand up straight, you may be putting a lot of
unwanted strain on your muscles that could cause damage.
If you are just beginning on the treadmill you will need to
pace yourself. Do no start out too fast or for too long, otherwise you will feel the strain the next day. It is recommended that you plan for 30-45 minutes of exercise per day. You should not be on the treadmill longer than this when starting out.
After a couple of weeks of
treadmill walking you should be able to see the results you are looking for. You will have an increase in energy as well as a decrease in your
overall weight level. Hop on the treadmill today so that you can start looking and feeling great once again!
