Stomach Exercise: Your First Step To A Trim Body
By: Rian Haswanda
The abdomen is a
weight loss problem area for many people. You recognize weight on the buttocks, thighs and upper arms, but a flabby belly makes you uncomfortable both physically and emotionally. You won't look good in your clothes and you can suffer significant health problems just because your stomach needs to be tightened up.
Stomach exercise can take many different forms. Here are a few of the most common ways to exercise your midsection.
Sit-Ups
Sit-ups are probably the most common way to try to flatten and tighten those
stomach muscles. The advantage with sit-ups is that there is no need to carry any special equipment with you in order to complete a series of sit-ups. The disadvantage to sit-ups is that you need to be on a firm surface. If you have back problems, they may be exacerbated by
the actions of the exercise.
Abdominal Crunches
The abdominal crunch is much like a sit-up except that you should bend your knees and cross your arms across your chest. You then use your abdominal muscles to pull yourself to a sitting position. Crunches are popular, but can be hard on the neck if not done properly.
Walking for exercise
Walking is probably the best overall exercise to tone your entire body, not just the flab on your abdomen. A brisk walk 3-4 times per week will do more to improve your health and well-being than almost any other exercise. You don't need equipment to walk, although you should invest in a good
pair of walking shoes that will provide proper support for your feet.
Swimming is nearly as effective as walking for overall exercise. It will burn off
excess fat throughout your body. The action of swimming is easier on your feet than walking is. The disadvantage to swimming is that you need a pool.
If you regularly get cardio-vascular exercise such as swimming or walking, you will
lose weight gradually and healthfully. Once you have formed a regular walking program you can add a
stomach exercise or two to firm up that part of your body. Generally, overall fitness is the best way to have firm abdominal muscles.
