Typically, the condition arises because of lumbar strain and also because nerves become irritated and also because of a condition known as lumbar radiculopathy. Other reasons for this problem are bony encroachments and also when the condition of joints and bones weaken.

Lumbar strain is a common cause of back pain lower and it refers to an injury caused by stretching and which affects your ligaments and tendons and even the muscles of lower back region. The tears in your muscle can be microscopic and even then it can lead to considerable pain. Overuse and improper usage as well as trauma are also reasons for suffering pain in the lower back.

Sometimes, the nerves in your lumbar spine can become irritated through mechanical problems and also because of disease. If this is the case then again you will experience pain in the lower regions of your back that can begin at the base of the spinal cord.

Lumbar radiculopathy is a form of irritation of the nerves and this condition arises when discs between your vertebrae become damaged. Often the cause of damage is simply wear and tear of the outer rings of a disc and also because of a traumatic injury and it could even be both conditions occurring simultaneously.

The best way to treat lumbar radiculopathy is through getting medical aid and in worse cases it could also mean having to undergo surgery. Medications can also be used in order to get relief from the pain and you may even need to take cortisone injections. In addition, physical therapy is recommended which can take the form of heat or massage or even ultrasound and of course you will need to get plenty of rest though this need not be construed to be bed rest.

If the pain does not relent then you may need to undergo surgery which will only be performed if your overall health permits it.
